Account & Settings
Signing in and age
You sign in with your Google account, or with a one-time sign-in link sent to your email address. On the sign-in page, enter your email and choose Email me a sign-in link; we send you a link that signs you in when you tap it. The link works once and expires after about an hour — if it has expired or was already used, request a new one from the same page. You must be at least 16 to use Role by Post: the sign-in page asks you to confirm this before continuing, and your answer is remembered on that device. Signing out clears it, so you confirm again next time. The same checkbox covers agreement to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and names the version you are accepting; your acceptance is recorded when you sign in, so you are never asked twice. When those documents change, the app asks you to accept the new version once before continuing, and shows which version you last accepted.
Display name and avatar
Your account has a display name (up to 40 characters) and avatar, shown in the app header. Edit them from the Settings page, reachable from the menu in the top-right.
Select the pencil badge on the avatar to upload a replacement picture. Uploads are available only when the server admin has enabled image uploads. If your Google account has a picture and your current avatar is different, you can restore it with Use Google picture.
Dark mode
A sun/moon toggle in the app header (and on the login page) switches between light and dark theme. Your choice is remembered; by default the app follows your device's light/dark preference.
Per-channel character name
Each channel has its own character name (max 20 characters) and avatar, so you can play a different character in each campaign.
Character sheet
You can link an optional character sheet URL (up to 500 characters) per user per channel.
Email updates (opt-in)
In Settings there is an "Email me about Role by Post" checkbox. It is off by default. When you switch it on, the server admin may email you about product updates, beta invitations, and replies to feedback or reports you submit. You can turn it off again at any time in the same place — see the Privacy Policy for full details. Account and security notices may always be sent.
Server admin
Server administrators also see a Server Admin item in the app menu, where they can manage users, channels, and the maximum number of channels per user. Channels whose GM deleted their account show an Orphaned badge in the Channels tab — Claim to become the GM. Tapping a channel's name opens a read-only view of its messages for safety reviews; admins can look but cannot post there. The view also includes a collapsible Players list showing who is in the channel, with each member's character name and account name, plus GM, Active player, and Blocked labels where they apply.
In the Users tab you can search by name or email, and filter by status (All, Active, Inactive, Suspended — Inactive means no sign-in in the last 30 days, or never). Tap any user to see their details: email and whether it's verified, sign-in method, last login and last activity, how many messages they've sent, which channels they're in (including any they're blocked from), and any past suspension history. You can suspend or un-suspend a user from that same view, with an optional reason. The Copy opted-in emails button copies the email addresses of everyone who consented to email updates, one per line — handy for sending manual newsletter or beta-invite emails.
Download your data
From Settings → Account & Data → Download My Data you can export your profile, channel memberships, authored messages (including your whispers), dice rolls, reactions, and notification preferences as a JSON file.
Delete your account
From Settings → Account & Data → Delete Account you can permanently erase your account and personal data. To confirm, type DELETE. After deletion your past messages stay in the chat but are shown without your name, and any channels you ran become available to the server admin. This cannot be undone.
Privacy policy & Terms of Service
The Privacy Policy and Terms of Service (linked from the login page footer, Settings, and the app menu) explain what data we collect, where it is stored, your access and erasure rights, and the terms governing your use of the platform.
About RoleByPost
The About item in the app menu links to the creator, donation pages, and RoleByPost's GitHub project.
Install as an app
On browsers that support it (Chrome, Edge, Android Chrome), a small banner at the top of the screen may offer to install Role by Post as an app. Installing adds it to your home screen for one-tap access and lets it keep working offline. Tap Install to confirm with your browser's dialog, or No thanks to hide the banner for a month. If you've dismissed it and change your mind, you can always install from your browser's menu (Chrome/Edge: the "Install" option).
